Shenzhen, CHINA, June 12, 2018 – Azoya, a borderless e-tailing group in China, announced the deepening of its business partnership with UnionPay International. UnionPay will now be enabling 12 of Azoya’s business partners with the ability to launch joint promotions and drive sales. UnionPay will also be providing 1.8 million RMB in marketing subsidies for Azoya’s merchant partners to encourage Chinese consumers to use UnionPay, a 50% increase from its earlier commitment last year.
Previously in 2017, it was announced that UnionPay and Azoya would be launching the first phase of its partnership by enabling five of Azoya’s retailers with UnionPay payment services and marketing assistance. When checking out, customers are able to select UnionPay as a payment method and undergo a shortened payment confirmation process. For Azoya’s merchant partners, the average number of monthly UnionPay transactions has doubled from 5,000 to 10,000 since the beginning of the partnership.
Additionally, UnionPay will host some of Azoya’s merchant partners on its e-commerce site, leveraging its traffic and large user base. On the platform is a mix of retail banking apps, online travel agency services, deal promotion websites, airlines, and online influencers. Azoya’s retail partners, including Feelunique (U.K.) and Pharmacy Online (Australia), are among the first online merchants to participate. UnionPay will be expanding its marketing efforts to grow its e-commerce business, specifically KOL (influencer) marketing and Weibo marketing.
“As China’s default bank card network, UnionPay is a great partner for us as we continue to expand our cross-border business,” said Don Zhao, co-founder of Azoya. “Our aim is to provide the best customer experience and UnionPay, with its large customer base, will enable us to extend our reach amongst China cross-border e-commerce users.”
With support from UnionPay International, Azoya will be launching promotional campaigns for its retail partners for various shopping holidays throughout the year. In addition, Chinese consumers will be eligible for extra discounts when leveraging UnionPay’s payment gateways during the checkout process, with UnionPay offering a combined value of 1.8 million RMB.
As a key payments partner, UnionPay will help facilitate the entry of international retailers into the China market, as well as drive further sales. The widespread use of UnionPay gives credibility to foreign retailers as they attempt to build brand awareness amongst Chinese consumers.
