Azoya Launches Japanese Flash Sales Retailer GLADD's Chinese E-Commerce Website

Azoya, a Chinese e-tailing group, has partnered with GLADD to launch its Chinese language official website, through which it will sell Japanese products and brands to Chinese consumers.

September 25, 2018, Shenzhen -  Shenzhen-based e-tailing group Azoya has launched an official Chinese e-commerce site for GLADD, Japan's largest flash sales e-commerce website. GLADD plans to significantly expand its presence in the China market which has seen growing demand for Japanese products.

GLADD boasts a membership base of 2.6 million users and its annual GMV topped 200 million USD in 2017. GLADD primarily sells merchandise in the fashion, cosmetics, and home & furniture space, with an inventory that includes over 5,000 Japanese and non-Japanese brands. Popular brands include Marni, APC, Furla, and more.

Azoya will be responsible for day-to-day operations of GLADD's Chinese website. This includes marketing, IT, customer service, and handling cross-border logistics and payments.The two plan to work together to provide a seamless customer experience for Chinese consumers looking to purchase quality, imported Japanese products on GLADD's website. 

“We are very enthusiastic with regards to GLADD's potential in the China market. Many Chinese have experience studying or working in Japan. These consumers are familiar with the GLADD brand and will play a crucial role in helping it spread in China via word of mouth," noted Azoya co-founder Don Zhao. "Japanese products are known for their refined quality as the Japanese are very meticulous and have strong attention to detail. As a result, Chinese people are more trusting of Japanese products, which is why we think GLADD has so much potential in China."

GLADD was originally founded in 2009 by Frenchmen Alain Soulas and Thibault Villet, who had also founded Glamour Sales, a leading luxury goods marketplace in China. In June of 2018, GLADD purchased Gilt Group Japan from Hudson's Bay Company, giving it a total market share of 80% of Japan's flash sales market. Glamour Sales was renamed Mei.com and subsequently sold to Alibaba. It is rumored that GLADD plans to go public in 2020 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
